Chapter Four
Alexi walked out of their new ten-million dollar La Jolla home to the impressive deck that faced the Pacific Ocean. It was just after three in the morning, and he’d known exactly where to find Bodi and Roman, although he hadn’t expected to find the group of twenty or so surfers that had gathered to watch Bodi do his thing.
“He’s magnificent,” Roman said from his position at the wrought-iron rail.
Alexi pressed the full length of his body against Roman’s back before moving Roman’s long black hair to the side, exposing the column of Roman’s neck. “He has quite a crowd gathered,” Alexi murmured as he pressed a kiss to Roman’s cool skin.
“More each night.” Roman tore his gaze away from Bodi and glanced over his shoulder. “He’s adapted nicely to surfing in the dark.”
Alexi looked at the full moon. “It’s not dark tonight.”
Roman shrugged. “It’s not the sunshine he’s used to, either.”
Alexi knew Roman still felt guilty about eliminating the warmth of the sun from Bodi, but Bodi seemed to take the changes in stride. Never in all Alexi’s years had he known someone to adapt to vampirism so quickly.
“He’s happy,” Alexi pointed out as he slid his arms around Roman. “And he makes us happy.”
Roman answered with a noncommittal grunt.
Alexi grinned because he knew he’d made his point. “Bodi’s always lived for the adrenaline rush. What could be more exhilarating than the life he’s now living? He gets fucked more times a day than a porn star, he’ll be around to enjoy the ocean for centuries and he’s in love for the first time in his life.”
“How do you know he’s in love?” Roman asked.
“How do you not? It’s in his eyes every time he looks at one of us.” Alexi turned Roman to face him. “You’re so consumed with Julian and whether or not he’s in there somewhere that you haven’t accepted the gift Bodi, so obviously, has given you.”
“Julian told me he’d return if we were meant to be together,” Roman said.
“If it weren’t for Julian, you wouldn’t have been at Unconventional the night Bodi was attacked. Maybe we’ve been looking at this whole thing all wrong. What if Julian’s only job was to bring you someone you could spend the rest of your life with?” Alexi wanted to bring his own love for Roman into the discussion, but he wasn’t sure Roman was ready to hear the L-word, so instead, he improvised. “I’m living the life I’ve always wanted and that’s because you and Bodi are in it.”
The corner of Roman’s mouth quirked up. “When did you get so sappy?”
“The first night I woke up with you and Bodi at my side and realized I could feel the sun on my skin without leaving my bed.”
Roman cupped the back of Alexi’s neck and leaned in for a deep kiss before breaking away again. “It’s time Bodi came inside,” he growled against Alexi’s mouth.
